More heavy snow again and a very hard Winter this year, meant lessons stopped functioning for a month although yard duties, exercising and training had to carry on in various forms. Our familiar team of horses this year include Masie, Barney, Rhodri, Hobby, Caffraegh, Ghaz, Biscuit, Dublin, Worthy, Lucy, Shadow, Athena and Bobby and at the time of writing all fit and well. We also have a few horses which are used for more advanced training for known clients specializing in jump and or flatwork. We very sadly lost Kid this year and she will be so missed after being in our jump team for 9 seasons and completely irreplaceable. She was kind, completely eccentric and so professional in her job. Spring will now be pushed up a gear to start British Novices, to join Joss and Reg in the truck. Reg is now 20 years old so every extra season is a bonus. Joss is being aimed at Foxhunters this season and having had her as a 4 year old we really enjoy developing her through the different levels. The horses available for sale at the moment are Storm, he is 9 years old with a very good jump ,hacks out on his own and in company and is generally a very nice all rounder, he would suit a med/light size lady rider and is regularly ridden by 5ft 7in – 5ft 9in riders although he just under 14 hands. He was on the winning senior Amateur team at the Wales and West this year and paraded with three big bay thoroughbred type horses in the main ring which gave us a big laugh because he was so small but so big in his parading!! Also Strawb; a very well bred Dutch Warmblood brood mare / all round hack and ex grade B show jumper. She carries Alme Z, Le Mexico, Calvados and Ibrahim in her bloodlines. She is lovely in every way but doesn't have enough riders to pay her way in the school!! She and Athena arrived in the same era and Athena has stolen some of her jockeys! Please see website or discuss with Tracy for any horses available. The big news was the arrival of baby Jack, 9lb 9oz to Shelley 5ft 1in! He is now 5 months old and has already had his first ride on Barney!! Congratulations to both Shelley and Darren on producing our first grandchild. I can now join the Galloping Grannies!! Shelley and Jack are both doing very well and Shelley is now back competing and teaching. Monty has now gone to Big School where he is being further developed for competition and in his place we now have some baby horses to train and develop. The baby horses are very sweet and learning fast. It is a bit like a nursery now with Pimms ( Topsy's foal ) and Atalanta, Mouse and Shiriki ( otherwise known as Al the alpaca due to his strange winter coat!! ) They keep me busy on the horse handling and training department! The Show Jump Club has been re vamped for this season with various shows being put on the yard board each month and then the jump riders sign up for the ones they want to attend. See Tracy for costs involved for the training and show days. We are also starting a second group for the next jump generation on Saturday afternoons, so if you are interested and we think the riders are up to level to join then we can discuss this with you. Staff this year include myself, Shelley, Sue, Abby and Sharon who joins us as an instructor. Catherine is moving on to other work but still helps out here with riding and anything else that is going on horsy. Laura who used to work for us full time also does some of the longer hacks for us, she now works freelance and helps out when needed. Amanda Deb and Jemma all help with the stable duties which helps keep the show on the road! Lower Dean and Mini Dean are still available for holiday breaks. They are fully modernised, well equipped and we can do bespoke courses to suit family groups both riding and / or non riding. See Ashley or Tracy if you want any further information. Best wishes to all our clients for 2011, have a happy successful year and keep fit and well. Thank you for continuing to support us. Tracy and the team at Dean |
